Prayagraj: With the rise in the water level of twin rivers – Ganga and Yamuna at Phaphamau, Chhatnag and Naini respectively, district authorities on Friday reviewed the situation and chalked out strategy if water level increases steadily.While the water level of Yamuna at Naini increased by 33 cm in the past 24 hours on Friday morning and recorded 73.81 meters , the water level of Ganga at Phaphamau and Chhatnag also rose 63 and 29 cm and recorded 77.69 and 73.46 m respectively.The danger level of twin river is 84.734 mtr. Officials, however, said, “ We are maintaining strict watch on water level of twin rivers and plans are chalked out to reach out to affected people when required”.Officials, however, claimed that water level of both rivers is far below the danger mark at Naini and Chhatnag while focus has been maintained at Phaphamau area where water level reached to 77.69 meters, just 6 meters below the danger mark.“If water level at Phaphamau rises sharply, we are prepared for flood outpost plans and action would be initiated accordingly”. He added, “Boatmen and swimmers have been alerted at Sangam area “.Officials of flood control division said that flood water from Ken, Betwa and other small rivers join Yamuna river during monsoon and as a result, the water level of Yamuna increases manifold. The water level of Ganga at Kada dham in neighbouring Kaushambi district has also increased.
