Parathas are usually stuffed with favourites like aloo, paneer, or gobhi. So when a street food vendor in Agra decided to use neem leaves instead, it did not take long for the recipe to become the center of discussion online. A video showing the entire process has drawn plenty of reactions, with many social media users saying they had never seen anything like it before.
Here’s how the neem paratha is made
The video shows the vendor plucking fresh neem leaves and removing them from the stems. He then chops the leaves finely and mixes them with diced onions, ginger, and Indian spices to prepare the stuffing. After that, he rolls out a portion of dough, places the filling inside, and seals it properly. The stuffed dough is rolled once again before being placed on a hot pan.The paratha is cooked with a generous amount of oil until both sides become golden brown. Once ready, it is cut into four pieces and served hot.The video was shared with the caption “India’s first neem paratha making in Agra.”
Internet has a field day in the comments
The unusual recipe quickly prompted a flood of reactions from social media users. One user wrote, “Perfect breakfast for my rishtedaar.”Another commented, “Pehli bar paratha dekhkar bhookh nahin hai” (this is the first time when I’m not hungry after seeing paratha).A third joked, “Sugar patient ke liye hai shayad” (this is probably for sugar patients).Another user wrote, “Mujhe pehli baar pata chala hai neem ke patto ka bhi paratha hota hai, ab ye soch rahi hu isko kaun khayega” (This is the first time I got to know that neem paratha actually exists; now I’m thinking, who is going to eat this).Disclaimer: This article reports on a viral social media post.
