Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) commissioner Rahul Ratnam Pandey on Monday directed officials to install waste traps to remove plastic and other waste from waterbodies in and around Sultan Battery and Kasaba Bengre. He asked them to prepare an action plan within three days.Pandey visited several areas under MCC limits, heard public grievances and inspected development and infrastructure works. At the request of Bengre Mahajana Sabha, he travelled by boat from Sultan Battery to Kasba Bengre and met local leaders.He directed officials to clean beaches and waterbodies in collaboration with NGOs and schools with 600 to 1,000 students. He also sought a meeting with tourism, coastal regulation zone and fisheries department officials to explore tourism development and the possibility of implementing Sagarmala project.After inspecting electricity poles, LED light maintenance and road problems in Bengre, Pandey directed officials to undertake the required work on priority and resolve the issues promptly. He also instructed them to construct a 10-unit public toilet.In Karangalpady, Pandey heard grievances concerning drainage and said an estimate would be prepared within 10 days and finalised after consultation with residents. Officials were directed to examine the technical aspects.He also visited Nadupali to learn about local issues and inspected ongoing retaining wall and compound wall construction in Jeppu–Kudupady. MCC health and engineering officials, KPTCL officials and residents accompanied him.He then visited the Nadupali area to gather information about the issues faced by locals. He also visited the Jeppu–Kudupady area and inspected the ongoing construction of retaining walls and compound walls. Officials from the MCC’s health and engineering sections, KPTCL officials and locals were present during the visit.
