Dhubri: A washed-out approach road to a bridge at Radhuram Chariali has disrupted connectivity, endangered commuters and forced residents onto longer routes.Days of monsoon rain and erosion damaged the approach to the RCC bridge in Dhubri district’s Birshing Jarua constituency, making the route hazardous for motorists, pedestrians and students. The damage has also affected emergency services.Fakirganj resident Kazi Jamir Uddin Ahmed said the 83-metre bridge was completed in 2021 after two years of construction, but its approach was washed away by continuous rain.“It has become extremely dangerous for commuters, and there is every possibility of a major accident if immediate repair work is not undertaken,” Ahmed said.Naskara resident Dewan Moslemuddin said the road connects Naskara with Chinabari and links to the NEC road leading to Guwahati and Meghalaya’s Garo Hills.“If the approach is damaged any further, a vast area with a population of around 6 lakh will be cut off from road connectivity,” he said, urging the authorities to begin emergency restoration work.Bilasipara PWD (Roads) divisional executive engineer Jakir Hussain said he was aware of the damage and that repairs would be undertaken soon.
