Vasco: A statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was unveiled near the Headland-Sada junction on Thursday evening by Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar, amid objections by the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA). The latter has gone to court alleging that the statue has been illegally installed on its property.On Wednesday, tension prevailed at Headland-Sada after people decided to install the statue even as MPA staked claim over the land. The people consequently threatened to protest if they were stopped from unveiling the statue. However, the entire function on Thursday proceeded smoothly.“The people have been residing here for decades and possess title documents. Yet, the MPA is harassing them,” Amonkar said, even as he warned the MPA that a public agitation would be launched if it continued to harass people over land ownership.
