Prayagraj: A wanted criminal was injured and arrested along with three accomplices after an encounter in Kaushambi late Saturday. The accused, identified as Alishan, sustained a bullet injury and was admitted to the district hospital in Manjhanpur. Police recovered a countrymade .315-bore pistol, two used and one unused cartridge, Rs 1.03 lakh in cash, an SUV, and stolen gold and silver jewellery worth several lakhs, along with other valuables.Police said a joint team of Kokhraj police and the SOG was conducting routine checks near Rohi crossing when they noticed four suspicious men in an SUV. The cops signalled them to stop, but they tried to escape. However, after being surrounded by the police, one of them opened fire. The police retaliated, injuring Alishan.Three of his accomplices, identified as Pradeep, Deepak Soni and Masroor, residents of Manjhanpur and Kokhraj, were also arrested after a brief chase.Police said injured criminal Alishan, a resident of Sandipan Ghat, has seven criminal cases pending against him in Kaushambi and Prayagraj districts. Police said Alishan and his accomplices were involved in stealing jewellery and valuables from locked houses.The gang used to sell the stolen jewellery in Prayagraj after committing crimes in Kaushambi.
