Bengaluru: Ulsoor police have cracked a silver shop burglary in which a thief drilled through a wall and stole around 10kg of silver ornaments from a shop on Car Street on April 29. Police arrested the accused from Shankarpuram, Tamil Nadu. During interrogation, he confessed that he had sold the stolen ornaments in Madanur. Police later recovered 5kg of silver worth Rs 12.5 lakh.The arrested accused has been identified as Teja, 19, a resident of Shankarpuram. The incident came to light on April 30, when the owner went to open the shop.During the investigation, police analysed CCTV footage and gathered intelligence from informants. Police traced and arrested Teja on May 20. He was taken into police custody for 20 days.During interrogation, he confessed to carrying out the burglary. He made a hole in the jewellery shop wall using a hammer and iron rod. He had come to meet one of his relatives staying in Halasuru. While roaming the area, he spotted the old building and decided to steal the jewellery.Teja is a first-time offender. He had used the money to purchase a car in the name of an acquaintance and later sold it. He also bought a mobile phone and spent the remaining money on other needs.
