Chandigarh: A total of 1,38,070 notices are being issued to electors in Chandigarh as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Of these, 93,193 notices (67.5%) have already been delivered.The exercise, being conducted on the directions of the Election Commission of India, involves field-level verification by booth level officers (BLOs). Notices are being served on electors whose entries require further verification or documentary confirmation.According to the department, the exercise is aimed at ensuring that electoral rolls remain accurate and that no eligible voter is excluded.Of the notices already delivered, 28,134 cases have been heard by the assistant electoral registration officers (AEROs) concerned. Documents submitted by electors have led to the resolution of 20,343 cases, while the remaining 7,791 are under scrutiny. A total of 44,877 notices are being generated and will be issued shortly.Officials have urged electors receiving notices to submit the required documents to the concerned AERO or through their respective BLO within the stipulated time. Timely submission, officials said, would help in the early disposal of cases and ensure that eligible citizens retain their names on the electoral rolls.The SIR is intended to identify and remove duplicate, ineligible, or deceased voters from the rolls while ensuring that genuine electors are not left out. The department has also appealed to citizens to cooperate with BLOs and other election officials during the verification process.Electors seeking clarification about notices, documents, or the status of their cases can contact the 24×7 voter helpline at 1950 or the toll-free number 1800-11-1950. Queries can also be raised through SMS to 1950, the Voter Helpline mobile application, and the Voters’ Service Portal. Citizens may also approach their respective BLO or AERO office for assistance.
