Vadodara: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC), in association with United Way of Baroda, will attempt to create a world record through a mega Garba event at the United Way Garba Grounds during Navratri on Wednesday, Oct 7.The ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Garba’ will feature renowned folk artist Atul Purohit, with the event being organised around the themes of Vadodara’s heritage, cleanliness, Nari Shakti and the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. The garba will be free for citizens, with registration through the GWR verification link.Mayor Geeta Makwana said the event would showcase Vadodara’s cultural identity while bringing citizens together for a collective celebration. “Garba is an integral part of Vadodara’s identity. Through this event, we want to celebrate our culture and heritage while giving citizens an opportunity to come together for a larger collective purpose,” she said.The event will begin with the unveiling of an installation dedicated to the ‘Vad’ (banyan tree) from which Vadodara derives its name. The city’s youth will participate in the unveiling, highlighting the connection between Vadodara’s heritage and its younger generation.Citizens will also take a ‘Swachh Vadodara’ pledge as part of the civic body’s ‘Swachhta Se Swagat’ campaign. A segment dedicated to Nari Shakti will highlight the contribution and strength of women, while the concluding theme will focus on a collective Sankalp for Viksit Bharat 2047.VMC municipal commissioner Arun Mahesh Babu said the event was aimed at combining celebration with citizen participation. “We want citizens to be active participants in the celebration and also in the larger vision for the city and the country. The event brings together Vadodara’s heritage, youth, women and civic responsibility,” he said.The world-record attempt will form the grand finale of the event, with organisers seeking to create a record linked to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
