Ponda: South Goa MP Viriato Fernandes said chief minister Pramod Sawant should question health minister Vishwajit Rane over the pending file to procure a CT Scan for the sub-district hospital in Ponda.“I’m told that the file for procuring a CT scan is pending with the health services,” said Fernandes on Friday. He said that if govt does not want the CT scan to be bought through sponsorship, it should buy it from its own funds.A company has already offered to donate a CT scan machine under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative. The hospital, earlier known as the Infectious Diseases (ID) Hospital, was built in 1977. The foundation stone for the current facility was laid on Jan 20, 2007. The 230-bed hospital was inaugurated on Dec 29, 2012, by then chief minister Manohar Parrikar, under whose tenure it was upgraded to a sub-district hospital. The MP said even after 15 years, the hospital lacks essential facilities. He said that govt spends crores on event management but cannot arrange Rs 3.5 crore for a CT scan machine. He said advanced cardiac care ambulances at South Goa district hospital and Chicalim sub-district hospital remained non-operational for two months due to a lack of trained technicians. Services began only after the 108 ambulance operators arranged technician training.
