Pune: A joint delegation of the Vimannagar Vikas Samiti (VNVS) and corporators met Pune municipal commissioner Naval Kishore Ram on Tuesday, pressing for time-bound action against illegal hawking, footpath encroachments, traffic bottlenecks, water supply issues and other long-pending civic concerns. The meeting followed an interaction held on July 25.Citing PMC records, VNVS said only 150-160 hawkers were licensed in Vimannagar, while over 420 unauthorised stalls were allegedly operating on footpaths, road junctions and public spaces. Residents alleged that several food stalls used commercial LPG cylinders and conducted open cooking on public footpaths, creating safety and fire hazards.In its memorandum, VNVS sought strict enforcement of the Street Vendors Act, removal of unauthorised vendors, and action against alleged licence violations.During the earlier residents-corporators meeting, elected representatives assured that political workers would not extend patronage to unauthorised vendors. They informed residents that a dedicated hawker zone was being planned and expected to be operational by Jan 2027.Residents also flagged recurring water supply problems, including low pressure, disruptions in Bhama Askhed supply, drainage issues and pockets receiving less than the mandated 135 litres per capita per day. They objected to housing societies being penalised during dengue and sanitation inspections even as public drainage issues remained unresolved. According to VNVS, corporator Aishwarya Pathare assured residents that societies would not face unnecessary penalties.Traffic management was another key issue. Corporators said enforcement against one-way violations would begin next week, followed by the installation of one-way signboards, zebra crossings and P1/P2 parking signage. Approved speed breakers are expected to be installed in the first or second week of Aug, while damaged footpaths will be repaired on priority.Residents also demanded action against illegal flex banners and stricter enforcement of noise regulations during festivals.
