Patna: Tension prevailed at Nima Rang village under Khaira police station area in Jamui district on Wednesday morning after the death of a 38-year-old man, who was allegedly assaulted while trying to settle a dispute between relatives on April 18. Angry villagers blocked the road and raised slogans against the administration, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused and a govt job for a dependent of the deceased.According to local residents, the victim, identified as Nirmal Singh, was critically injured on April 18 when an argument broke out between Ranjay Singh and his brother Gore Singh in the village. Nirmal intervened in an attempt to mediate the clash, but Ranjay Singh and his son, Lali Kumar, allegedly struck Nirmal on the head with an iron rod during the altercation. Seriously injured Nirmal was rushed to the district sadar hospital, where doctors referred him to Patna due to the severity of his injuries. However, he succumbed on Tuesday night during treatment.News of his death triggered outrage among family members and villagers. On Wednesday morning, protestors placed the body near a gas agency where Nirmal was employed as a vehicle driver and blocked the road, disrupting traffic for several hours. Protesters demanded the arrest of the accused and financial support for the bereaved family. Nirmal is survived by his wife and three minor daughters, aged eight, five and three years. The family now faces acute financial distress following his death.On receiving information about the situation, personnel from Khaira police station rushed to the spot and held talks with villagers, following which the blockade was cleared. Khaira SHO Mintu Kumar Singh said police were taking strict action against those involved. “The investigation is underway. Necessary legal steps are being taken and all possible assistance will be provided to the victim’s family. The situation is under control,” he said.
