A tree fell on a car in Aikola village

Madikeri: A villager was seriously injured after a tree fell on his moving car in Aikola village near Murnadu on Thursday.Ali, 60, a resident of Kondangeri village under Halugunda gram panchayat, was returning from Murnadu when a tree was uprooted and fell onto his car. He was alone in the vehicle at the time of the incident, police said.Ali sustained serious head and leg injuries. Locals immediately removed the fallen tree and rushed him to the Madikeri District Hospital for treatment. The car was completely damaged in the incident. Madikeri taluk tahsildar Sridhar visited the spot.Meanwhile, rain continued across the district on Thursday, with showers over the past 48 hours causing damage in several areas. Talacauvery, the birthplace of the River Cauvery, recorded 410mm of rainfall during the period. Abbi Falls near Madikeri witnessed a surge in tourist footfall as the waterfalls sprang back to life following the heavy rains.Strong winds and continuous rainfall have also damaged more than 60 electricity poles across the district, disrupting power supply. In addition, electric wires were snapped, and several trees and branches fell on power lines, CESC executive engineer Ramachandra said.The worst-affected areas are villages under the Virajpet, Gonikoppa and Srimangala sub-centres. Power disruptions were also reported from Bhagamandala, Napoklu and Murnadu.To restore power, 170 staff members, 70 gangmen and 20 additional personnel have been deployed across the district. Ramachandra said the situation could be brought under control within a day or two if the rain subsides.
