CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu chief minister C Joseph Vijay on Wednesday condemned the arrest of Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during a protest in New Delhi on Tuesday against alleged irregularities in the NEET. Vijay called it an attack on democracy.“The Union govt must respect the sentiments of students and the people. NEET should be abolished in its entirety,” Vijay said in a post on X.Expressing solidarity with the opposition’s protest in Parliament over the issue, Vijay said TVK extended its full support to the demonstration. Reiterating the party’s stand, he said NEET should be scrapped permanently and accused political parties of making false promises on abolishing the entrance test for electoral gains.Vijay said the permanent solution was to move education back to the state list to give states full control over education and medical education. As an interim measure, he proposed creating a special concurrent list to empower states until the constitutional changes required for such a shift are made.
