Varanasi: A video showing a woman being dragged out of a private school during an Independence Day programme in Sigra police station area has triggered controversy on social media. Police said the video was edited and a selective portion of the incident was circulated online.According to Sigra inspector Shivakant Mishra, the incident took place on August 15 during a programme organised for students from KG to Class 8. Around noon, while students were performing and parents were present, a 34-year-old woman allegedly entered the school premises and created nuisance. Police identified the woman as Alka, a resident of Nagar Nigam Residential Colony in Madhopur. Officials said she allegedly pulled a stick from a flag, threw objects around and misbehaved with children and female teachers.Teachers and school staff initially tried to pacify her and escort her out. However, police said she allegedly became aggressive and pushed the principal. A child also suffered a minor injury during the commotion.When the situation could not be brought under control, Hemant Singh (30), son of school principal Shalini Singh, and associated with the school, intervened and pulled the woman out of the premises. Police said the video circulating on social media showed only a portion of the incident.After the video went viral on social media, police conducted an inquiry. The woman’s father Krishna Yadav submitted a written statement saying that his daughter had been undergoing treatment for a mental health condition for around 12 years under BHU psychiatrist Dr Sanjay Gupta. He also stated that he did not want any action to be taken in the matter.Police said action was taken against Hemant Singh under Sections 170, 126 and 135 of the BNS. Hemant later issued a video apology, saying he had intervened only to ensure the safety of the children and women present at the programme.
