Coimbatore: Former AIADMK minister S P Velumani joined the tribal community in a traditional dance during his election campaign in Seengapathi village near Chadivayal in Thondamuthur constituency here on Thursday.Velumani campaigned in Valaiyankuttai, Sadivayal and Singupathi areas on the day. At Singupathi, residents honoured him with ‘maavilakku’ (flour lamp) ritual, a deeply rooted local tradition. The former minister, who is fielded again in Thondamuthur constituency, visited the local tribal temple to offer prayers and later participated in a traditional dance with the villagers. “AIADMK has become an inseparable part of the lives of tribal people, as we have consistently fulfilled their needs and implemented numerous welfare schemes during our tenure. They treat us with immense affection and trust,” Velumani said. He emphasized that the tribal community was still looking forward to AIADMK as their primary support system. Velumani also led a rekla (bullock cart) procession in Iruttupallam area, where party cadres welcomed him with massive garlands.
