Coimbatore: A functionary of Viduthalai Siruthaigal Katchi (VCK) has petitioned the city police commissioner seeking action against TVK founder Vijay over his election campaign remarks influencing children.V Balakrishnan, district organizer of the party’s cadre wing from Ganapathy, said Vijay had urged children to persuade their parents to vote for him, akin to demanding chocolates from them, during a campaign meeting in Chennai on April 21. After listening to the speech, Balakrishnan said his five-year-old son had insisted that he vote for TVK, cried and refused food when he declined. He said the remarks had a psychological impact on the children and violated election rules. Balakrishnan said Vijay’s remarks had negatively impacted many children and amounted to an offence under provisions of the Representation of the People Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Balakrishnan also sought removal of videos of the speech from social media and said he would move court if no action was taken.
