SS Rajamouli shares major update on Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra’s ‘Varanasi’; IMAX action schedule wrapped

SS Rajamouli has offered an exciting production update on his much-awaited action-adventure ‘Varanasi’, starring Priyanka Chopra and Mahesh Babu in the lead. The filmmaker confirmed that the movie has crossed a major milestone, with its elaborate IMAX action sequences now successfully completed. The announcement comes as anticipation continues to grow around the ambitious project, which is slated to arrive in theatres worldwide on April 7, 2027.Speaking to Variety India about the film’s progress, Rajamouli assured fans that the production remains firmly on schedule and has now entered its final stretch.

IMAX action blocks have been completed

The ace director revealed that the biggest and most technically demanding portions of the film are already behind the team. Having wrapped the large-scale action episodes, the focus has now shifted to filming the scenes that connect the narrative.“We have completed a major portion of the shoot all the important big spectacle action sequences are done.” He further shared, “We are now into doing the smaller, interconnecting scenes so hopefully, by September, maybe a little bit into October, we should be finishing shooting.”According to Rajamouli, only the dramatic portions from the Varanasi schedule remain to be filmed before principal photography comes to an end.Rajamouli emphasised that the film is moving ahead exactly according to schedule, dismissing any concerns about delays. His latest update indicates that the team is on course to complete filming within the expected timeline before moving into the post-production phase.The director’s statement has also reassured fans eagerly waiting for the ambitious project, with its theatrical release remaining locked for April 7, 2027.

A visual spectacle created for the IMAX experience

Mounted on an expansive scale, ‘Varanasi’ is being designed as an immersive cinematic experience, with several key sequences specifically crafted for IMAX screens.
