Bhubaneswar: Unidentified miscreants allegedly broke into the residence of a city-based builder in Laxmi Sagar area here and decamped with gold ornaments, cash and other valuables worth more than Rs 1 crore late on Friday night.Builder Pritam Jena and his family were away when the burglary took place at the house between 10 pm and 11 pm, sources said.According to the sources, the accused also reportedly took away the hard disk of the house’s CCTV surveillance system, apparently to destroy evidence and avoid identification by police. The theft came to light when the family members returned to the house and found the premises ransacked. They then alerted the local police about the incident.On receiving information, a team from Laxmi Sagar police station reached the spot and began an investigation. Police examined the scene and collected evidence. “We have registered a case and launched an investigation. Efforts are on to identify and trace those involved in the burglary,” a police officer said.Police are scanning CCTV footage from nearby establishments and collecting information from the local residents to gather clues. The exact value of the stolen property is being assessed, though family members estimated the loss to be more than Rs 1 crore.
