Mangaluru: Digital evaluation will be introduced in the first phase of the Unified University and College Management System (UUCMS) at three higher education institutions in Karnataka — Mangalore University, SDM College (Autonomous), Dharwad, and Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Ballari. At Mangalore University, the rollout will begin on a limited scale as a pilot, covering select postgraduate courses with a small number of candidates, before any wider adoption across the university’s examination system.Bhagyawan M, state nodal officer, higher education department and UUCMS project director, said three institutions had been identified for the initial implementation, and training had already been provided to support the process. He said the facility would later be extended to other higher education institutions in the state that have adopted UUCMS.Mangalore University had previously considered establishing its own digital evaluation facility and is now preparing to use the platform offered by UUCMS.H Devendrappa, registrar (evaluation), said the university would not immediately shift its entire examination process to digital evaluation. He said the system would first be introduced under a pilot project for courses with fewer students, particularly at the postgraduate level. He also said there had been no clear communication from UUCMS about the exact implementation date, and the university would proceed once the rollout begins.Sources said digital evaluation requires a separate facility and infrastructure, which must be established in advance for the process to function smoothly.
