Kolkata: Investigations into two consecutive attacks on Beleghata MLA Kunal Ghosh gathered momentum with police visiting the legislator’s Beleghata home late on Monday night to record his formal statement on the Uttarpara attack, while a separate probe into an alleged ambush in his own constituency made significant progress.Officers from the Uttarpara PS arrived and spoke to Ghosh at length at his Garpar Road home in Narkeldanga on Monday night and recorded his statements regarding the initial assault that took place over the weekend.The incident took place on Saturday when Ghosh was on his way to attend a rally led by Mamata Trinamool Congress chief and former CM Mamata Banerjee. The MLA alleged that his vehicle was targeted in Uttarpara, where goons hurled eggs and vandalised the car with iron rods. KP confirmed substantial headway in a second, allegedly more violent ambush that happened in Beleghata on Sunday morning. Cops have begun scanning CCTV footage retrieved from Narkeldanga Main Road to trace the sequence of events. A senior officer said while the legislator’s formal statement in the case has not yet been officially documented, officers remain in continuous touch with him.The Beleghata police registered a case following a Zero FIR docket transferred from the Narkeldanga PS based on a written complaint submitted by Ghosh.
