New Delhi: The Congress has conveyed to the leadership of its ally, Samajwadi Party (SP), a wish list of contesting over 175 seats in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, the party’s in-charge said here. However, the SP leadership is learnt to have found the Congress’s demand disproportionate to its strength in the state. The SP is learnt to have asked the Congress to settle for 50 to 75 seats.”I can’t give the exact numbers, but we have submitted a list for 175 to 200 seats. The leadership of both parties will sit together to thrash out the nitty-gritty of the seat-sharing arrangement,” AICC in-charge of Uttar Pradesh Rajendra Pal Gautam said here on Friday. The Congress currently has two members in the 403-member UP assembly. Representatives of Congress and SP are expected to hold further rounds of discussions on the alliance.
