Lucknow: The state govt is making extensive use of GNSS Rover technology for land demarcation and identification. Tehsils have been allotted 350 Rovers till now while 143 are being used in map projects across 10 urban local bodies.Two Rovers have been deployed at the Consolidation Training Centre in Hardoi, while nine have been assigned to lekhpal training institutes.“The use of Rovers is making land measurement faster, and more accurate,” said Kanchan Verma, commissioner and secretary, Board of Revenue.Verma said that GNSS Rover was a modern survey instrument that determines the precise position of a point on the ground based on signals received from various satellite systems. In UP, it is being used to provide information with an accuracy of approximately 1 to 5 cm. Surveyors record the digital coordinates of key points along field or land boundaries and then use software to calculate distances and area to prepare a digital map“The use of the Rover is reducing human intervention in the calculation of distances and area, thereby lowering the possibility of errors. It is also reducing damage to crops, which used to take place during manual calculations when one needed to move from field to field,” Verma said.
