Origin Story
Ursa Major was founded on a simple belief: Skin care should make you feel good — not just about how you look, but about how you live.
After years of working in the beauty industry in New York City, Co-Founders Emily Doyle and Oliver Sweatman grew frustrated with an industry driven by fear-based marketing, unrealistic standards and increasingly complicated routines. Seeking a different path, they moved to Vermont, where the forests, fresh air and slower pace of life inspired a new vision for skin care.
In 2010, they launched Ursa Major to bring that feeling of vitality and well-being to everyday routines. The brand combines powerful, forest-infused ingredients — including birch sap, willow bark and other naturally derived actives — with formulations free from harsh chemicals, synthetic fragrances and unnecessary fillers.
From the beginning, Ursa Major has rejected “anti-aging” messaging and the idea that beauty should be a full-time job. Instead, the brand focuses on creating high-impact, low-maintenance essentials that deliver real results while delighting the senses with lightweight textures and naturally refreshing aromas.
Today, Ursa Major is a certified B Corp and a leader in “clean” skin care, known for its uncomplicated approach to healthy, vibrant skin. Made for skin and spirit, every product reflects the brand’s founding mission: effective skin care inspired by nature, designed to help people feel their best at every age.
