Srinagar, Oct 3: The Uri national highway will remain temporarily closed on October 4 and 11 to facilitate hill-cutting work being carried out by the 53 RCC of the General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF).
Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Uri Prince Kumar, IAS, issued the closure order on October 3 following a request from the Officer Commanding, 53 RCC (GREF), and subsequent communications regarding the execution of the hill-cutting work.
As per the order, the Uri-national highway will remain closed on October 4 (Sunday) and October 11 (Sunday) to facilitate the work.
The administration has advised the general public, commuters and transport operators to use the Bandi-Paranpillan-Dachi route as an alternative during the period of closure.
The order, however, stated that no hill-cutting work would be carried out on government working days during the specified peak hours of 9 am to 10:30 am and 3:30 pm to 5 pm.
The executing agency has been directed to ensure that the highway remains open for vehicular movement during these timings and to put in place all necessary safety measures for the protection of commuters.
The SDM said the temporary restrictions were being imposed to facilitate the hill-cutting work while ensuring that traffic movement is regulated and commuter safety is maintained.
