Times News NetworkKanpur: District magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh directed the UP Pollution Control Board officials to take action in accordance with the rules against tannery units that fail to pay bills for operation and Maintenance (O & M) charges.He was presiding over a review meeting of Wazidpur CETP (Common Effluent Treatment Plant) held at the collectorate here on Tuesday to ensure timely implementation of the remaining work on the 20 MLD CETP at Wajidpur Jajmau and to guarantee compliance with environmental standards.A point-by-point review of the various tasks associated with the project was conducted during the meeting. The district magistrate directed that the UPPCB and the project engineer jointly prepare a report regarding all outstanding works related to pipelines and manholes under the project. This report is to be verified by the secretary, JETETA, and submitted within two days.The status of the disposal of solid waste and sludge generated by the CETP was also reviewed. The DM issued instructions to ensure proper and safe disposal of solid waste and sludge in accordance with regulations so that environmental standards are fully complied with.While reviewing the remaining works related to the CETP plant, the district magistrate instructed the contractor concerned to complete all tasks within the stipulated time frame. He directed that the project’s pending works be finished within the set deadline.The status of the operation and maintenance (O&M) charges for the CETP was also reviewed during the meeting. He directed the UPPCB to ensure that necessary action is taken, in accordance with the rules, against tannery units that are failing to pay their O&M charge bills.
