Srinagar, July 31: A delegation of Imams and Ulema from Uttar Pradesh on Friday praised the development initiatives undertaken at prominent shrines across Jammu and Kashmir, describing the work carried out by the J&K Waqf Board as a model for the country.
The delegation, which visited several spiritual shrines in the Union Territory, was accompanied by Maulana Farooq Naqashbandi from Rajouri during its spiritual tour.
Later, the delegation called on J&K Waqf Board Chairperson Dr Syed Darakhshan Andrabi at the Waqf Headquarters in Srinagar and appreciated the Board’s efforts in improving infrastructure and facilities at religious sites.
During the interaction, the delegates lauded the development works carried out at shrines and expressed appreciation for the initiatives aimed at improving facilities for devotees.
Dr Darakhshan Andrabi said that her administrative experience with the Central Waqf Council helped her undertake reforms and introduce greater transparency and accountability in the functioning of the J&K Waqf Board after assuming charge as its first Chairperson under the Central Waqf Act.
She said Waqf institutions across the country had earlier been used for political interests but claimed that reforms under the present government had brought significant changes in the Waqf management system.
“Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, we see changes everywhere and the Waqf system has also witnessed transformative changes across the country,” Andrabi said.
She added that appreciation from visitors and stakeholders encouraged the Board to continue its development initiatives.
The Waqf Board Chairperson assured the delegation that the mission of development with transparency would continue and that spiritual spaces across Jammu and Kashmir would witness further improvements in the coming days.
