Lucknow: In line with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath‘s vision of making Uttar Pradesh a leading destination for AI and digital infrastructure, the Uttar Pradesh govt on Friday signed an MoU with AM Group to set up a one-gigawatt (GW) high-performance computing (HPC) and AI data centre in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) area. The proposed project, entailing an estimated investment of USD 25 billion, will be developed over 289 acres of land. YEIDA CEO Rakesh Kumar issued a Letter of Intent (LoI) to representatives of AM Group for 114 acres in Sector 28 and 175 acres in Sector 8D. Officials said the facility will be equipped with nearly five lakh high-performance chipsets and operate round the clock on carbon-free energy, including wind, solar and pumped storage. The project is being pitched as one of the largest AI-focused computing hubs in the country. The development will take place in phases, with the first phase expected to become operational by 2028. The company has set a target of achieving full 1 GW capacity by 2030. According to the state govt, the hub will cater to the rising demand for AI and high-performance computing from global hyperscalers, research institutions, enterprises and sovereign AI initiatives. AMG AI Labs, under its “Democratisation of AI” vision, aims to build an integrated value chain spanning energy to advanced AI applications, providing Indian developers access to cutting-edge chipsets. The project is expected to generate thousands of high-skilled jobs and boost ancillary sectors such as hardware manufacturing, software development and specialised cooling technologies. Officials said it is also likely to attract significant foreign direct investment.
