BANDA: A young couple died after allegedly consuming a poisonous substance on the premises of Singhwahini Temple, with police investigating the circumstances that led them to take the extreme step, officials said on Sunday.The deceased were identified as Shatrughan (20), a resident of Lakhanpur village, and Rajmani (19), who belonged to the Pahari area. Police said both were from the same community.The incident took place late Saturday night at Singhwahini Temple in Kamasin town.Baberu circle officer Krishnakant Tripathi said Kamasin police received information around midnight that a man and a woman had allegedly consumed a poisonous substance and were found unconscious on the temple premises.The duo was rushed to the Community Health Centre in Kamasin, where doctors declared them brought dead, police said.Kamasin station house officer Santosh Kumar Ojha told news agency PTI that the preliminary investigation suggests the two were in a relationship. He said police are probing the circumstances that led them to allegedly consume the poisonous substance. Police have not received a complaint so far. Police sent the bodies for post-mortem examination, and further investigation is underway. (With agency inputs)
