Lucknow: UP govt has released Rs 460.23 crore for the payment of honorarium to 1.28 lakh Shiksha Mitra teachers under the Samagra Shiksha programme for Sept-Oct 2026-27 academic session. The move comes after govt increased the monthly honorarium of Shiksha Mitras from ₹10,000 to ₹18,000, providing a major financial boost to teachers working in primary schools across the state.
According to officials, ₹230 crore has been allocated for Sept and an equal amount for Oct. The funds have been distributed district-wise and instructions have been issued to ensure timely payment of honorarium as per the approved allocation.
The enhanced honorarium will benefit 1,27,841 Shiksha Mitras during the current academic session. The increase of ₹8,000 per month represents an 80% rise in honorarium, a long-standing demand of these teachers.
Basic education minister Sandeep Singh said govt decision reflected its commitment towards the welfare of Shiksha Mitras. “Yogi govt has strengthened the economic interests of Shiksha Mitras by significantly increasing their honorarium,” Singh said.
DG School Education Monika Rani said, “The increase in honorarium will provide additional financial support to Shiksha Mitras. This will enable them to discharge their responsibilities in schools with greater enthusiasm and commitment.” The government expects the enhanced honorarium to provide relief to thousands of Shikshamitra families while supporting efforts to improve learning outcomes in government schools across Uttar Pradesh.
