LUCKNOW: A 45-year-old veterinary doctor allegedly plunged to his death from the eighth floor of an apartment building in Gorakhpur’s Gorakhnath area on Thursday morning, leaving behind a suicide note accusing a woman of duping him of Rs 1.4 crore in an alleged loan fraud.The deceased, Dr Paramatma Singh, was posted as a veterinary doctor in Maharajganj district’s Nautanwa. His wife, Dr Sumitra Singh, is also a veterinary doctor. The couple lived with their two children, a 12-year-old son and a seven-year-old daughter, in Basant Enclave, Rajendra Nagar Colony, Gorakhpur.According to police, Dr Singh had breakfast at his residence before going to the terrace of the building around 9.30 am. He reportedly spent nearly 15 minutes on the rooftop before jumping. Residents alerted family members after hearing screams. His wife rushed downstairs and found him critically injured. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.Investigators said the suicide note recovered from Dr Singh named Garima Singh, who is already facing allegations of cheating him in a loan-related fraud. The doctor had lodged a complaint with police just a week before his death, accusing Garima and others of deceiving him into taking multiple loans.In his complaint, Dr Singh had alleged that Garima approached him in Feb with a proposal to close his existing home loan through personal loans. She allegedly assured him that she would repay the EMIs. Acting on her advice, he obtained loans from six different banks and transferred the money to her after disbursal.Police said the doctor claimed that Garima paid EMIs for only a couple of months before stopping payments, leaving him burdened with massive debt. His wife told investigators that he was under severe mental stress as banks repeatedly called him over unpaid instalments. She said he constantly worried about managing the repayments from his salary.Dr Singh had also alleged in his Aug 5 complaint that Garima threatened him when he demanded his money back. He named one of her associates, Vishal Yadav, and claimed that some bank employees may have helped facilitate the loans. The complaint further stated that if anything happened to him or his family, Garima, her associates and the concerned bank officials should be held responsible.Additional SP, Gorakhpur, Patil Nimish Dashrath, said police had already arrested Garima Singh and her father, Dhruv Narayan Singh, in connection with the case.Police suspect the alleged fraud network may have targeted several victims, including doctors and government officials, with the total scam amount estimated at around Rs 10 crore. A diary allegedly recovered from Garima is also being examined for clues regarding the wider operation.Police and forensic teams inspected the scene, while further investigation into both the suicide and the alleged fraud is underway.
