Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister,  Yogi Adityanath on Monday said , opposing Vande Mataram or making disrespectful remarks about national symbols is “no less than treason.” He said this statement while speaking during the Budget Session of the state Assembly.

Adityanath accused the Samajwadi Party and the Indian National Congress of misleading people in the name of the Constitution. He questioned why some members of these parties allegedly refused to stand for Vande Mataram. “You want to live in India but have a problem with the national anthem and national song? This cannot be accepted,” he said.

The Chief Minister also said that supporting anti national elements or insulting national symbols cannot be tolerated. He said that every citizen has a duty to respect the Tricolour, the national anthem, and the national song.

Adityanath further said, the Constituent Assembly gave recognition to Vande Mataram on January 24, 1950. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for issuing guidelines regarding the observance of the national song as the Centre marks 150 years of Vande Mataram.

During his formal speech , Chief Minister also spoke about development in Uttar Pradesh since 2017. He said the state has moved forward under what he described as a “double engine government,” claiming improvements in law and order, infrastructure, and investment.
