New Delhi: Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi met Canada’s High Commissioner Christopher Cooter and Trade Commissioner Amy Antonini and discussed strengthening of India-Canada cooperation in education, research and innovation.
The meeting focused on opportunities to deepen bilateral engagement in areas that could support academic collaboration, research partnerships and innovation-led growth. The discussions come amid renewed efforts by India and Canada to strengthen ties across higher education, science and technology, and talent development.
“Discussions focused on implementing the MoUs announced during the engagements between Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi ji and Canadian PM HE @MarkJCarney, revitalising higher education ties, expanding research partnerships and student mobility, and facilitating Canadian universities’ entry into India under NEP 2020,” Joshi said in a post on X.
“We reaffirmed our commitment to deeper academic collaboration and greater opportunities for students and researchers in both countries,” he added.
The meeting comes as India and Canada look to deepen academic and research ties. In February 2026, leaders from 24 Canadian universities met Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to explore research partnerships and international campuses in India.
Stronger links between universities, research institutions and industry could help both countries exchange expertise, advance research and translate scientific developments into practical applications.
The meeting between Joshi, Cooter and Antonini adds to the ongoing engagement between the two countries on education, research and innovation.
