Thiruvananthapuram: An unidentified body, suspected to be around five days old, was recovered from the river at Mandapathinkadavu under Aryancode police station limits on Sunday afternoon.According to police, locals noticed the body lying in the waters and alerted authorities. The body, which showed signs of decomposition, is believed to have remained in the water for several days before being washed ashore. A case has been registered and an investigation is under way to ascertain the identity of the deceased and the circumstances leading to the death. Police said there have been no reports of missing persons matching the description of the deceased from the immediate locality. As part of efforts to establish identity, officers have begun cross-checking missing persons records from nearby police stations as well as other stations across the district.Officers said the deceased was suspected to be in the age group of 40-55 years. He was found wearing a dark-coloured shirt and shorts. The body was later shifted to govt medical college hospital for postmortem examination. A case of unnatural death has been registered, and the forensic report is expected to provide more clarity regarding the cause and time of death. Police have urged relatives or acquaintances, who have not yet lodged complaints, of missing persons to come forward and contact Aryancode police station. Further investigation is in progress.
