Rajkot: Kotda Sangani police have registered a case against the owner of an industrial unit after a PGVCL worker died of electrocution while carrying out maintenance work in Rampara village of Rajkot district on Oct 1.The case was filed under Section 105 of the BNS against Gordhan Ramani, owner of Nyal Karan Industries, following a complaint by Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Ltd (PGVCL). The power utility’s preliminary inquiry allegedly found an unauthorised electrical arrangement that may have allowed electricity from a Jyotigram feeder to flow into an agricultural feeder. The deceased, Lalsingh Palas, was working on a transformer connected to an agricultural feeder that had been shut down for maintenance. While installing a drop-out (DO) fuse after the transformer was replaced, he allegedly received an electric shock when power unexpectedly resumed on the agricultural line.According to the complaint, a contractor authorised by PGVCL had been replacing a burnt 10KVA transformer serving an agricultural connection in the village. The contractor’s team obtained line clearance from the 66KV Ramod substation before beginning the work. After the transformer replacement, Palas and a colleague started fitting the DO fuse. During the process, electricity allegedly flowed into the feeder, electrocuting Palas and causing him to suffer fatal injuries. He was taken to govt hospital in Kotda Sangani, where he was declared dead.Following the incident, PGVCL officials conducted an inquiry to determine how power reached the agricultural feeder despite its scheduled shutdown. Investigators allegedly found that the 11KV Ramod Jyotigram feeder had been switched on shortly before the accident.During inspections of nearby installations, officials allegedly detected unauthorised wiring at Nyal Karan Industries on Ramod Road. The complaint states that wires connected to a changeover switch at the industrial unit were linked to an agricultural electricity connection reportedly registered in Ramani’s name, creating a possible route for electricity to flow from the industrial line to the agricultural feeder.Deputy engineer Deepakkumar Dhranga filed the complaint on Oct 16, seeking action against Ramani and any other persons found responsible during the investigation.
