Hazaribag: Chatra police arrested two suspected CPI (Maoist) members and claimed to have foiled their plan to open fire and torch goods vehicles in Bhuiyandih valley to create panic and revive the banned outfit’s activities in the district.Acting on a tip-off received by SP Animesh Naithany, a special team led by Chatra SDPO Sunny Vardhan launched a vehicle-checking drive on the Pratappur-Kunda road near Balwadohar village on Monday.Vardhan said the suspects tried to flee on a motorcycle after spotting the police team but were chased and apprehended. They were identified as Surendra Ganjhu, 22, a resident of Kojram village, and Sanjay Ganjhu, 20, of Karil Garhwa village. Both villages fall under Kunda police station limits.Police claimed that during interrogation, the duo admitted to acting on the instructions of Maoist zonal commander Manohar Ganjhu. They were allegedly heading to Bhuiyandih valley to fire shots and set goods-laden vehicles ablaze to spread fear and signal the outfit’s presence in the area.Police said the alleged attack was intended to help the weakened outfit attract new recruits and revive its network in Chatra.A country-made pistol, five live cartridges, around one litre of petrol, a matchbox, two mobile phones and a motorcycle were seized from them.Police said one of the accused has a criminal record. Raids are under way to identify and arrest others allegedly linked to the conspiracy.
