Bhilwara: The Additional Sessions Court No-2 in Chittorgarh Tuesday sentenced two men to life imprisonment for the murder of a 23-year-old man, whose headless body was discovered in a well in the Gangrar area on Dec 5, 2022. The court acquitted the victim’s sister citing insufficient evidence linking her to the murder. The victim, identified as Mahendra Raika from Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh, had been living with his family in Bhatkala village near Gangrar when the murder was executed. Following a complaint filed by his maternal uncle, Shantilal, the police registered a case and arrested Mahavir Dhobi and his associate Mahendra Dhobi alongside Tanisha, the deceased’s sister. Presiding officer Vinod Kumar Berwa delivered the verdict after examining statements from 33 witnesses and investigating 96 documents related to the murder. Both Mahavir and Mahendra were found guilty of orchestrating Raika’s murder, prompted by escalating tensions due to Mahendra’s objections to his sister’s relationship with Mahavir. To evade law enforcement, Mahavir allegedly took inspiration from a Bollywood movie, hollowing out a plan that involved luring Mahendra, administering cannabis, and subsequently committing the murder before disposing of the body in the well. During the proceedings, evidence suggested that a sibling rivalry turned deadly as Tanisha, who had initially built a rapport with Mahavir, conspired against her brother after he confronted her about the relationship. The police, led by then Chittorgarh SP Rajan Dushyant, worked to solve the case, gathering crucial evidence from the gruesome crime scene that ultimately led to the swift filing of charges. As part of the sentencing, the court imposed a fine of Rs 70,000 on each of the convicted men and mandated that compensation be awarded to Raika’s legal heirs.
