Prayagraj: Two robbers allegedly involved in the recent jeweller loot case in Kaushambi’s Manjhanpur were injured and arrested following an encounter with police near Karro Road on Wednesday night, police said.Those arrested were Anchoo Soni alias Devesh and Rajaram alias Ramraj Yadav, both residents of Kunda. They sustained bullet injuries during the exchange of fire and are undergoing treatment at the district hospital.Police said three armed men on motorcycles had looted jewellery, cash and a mobile phone from jeweller GP Soni near Samda crossing on June 27. A case was subsequently registered at Manjhanpur police station.Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of Manjhanpur police and the Special Operations Group (SOG) intercepted the suspects near Karro Road on Wednesday night. According to police, the duo opened fire on the police team in an attempt to escape. In the retaliatory firing, both accused were injured and arrested.Police recovered two .315-bore country-made pistols, two live cartridges and four spent cartridges from their possession. The team also seized 5.8 grams of looted gold, 1.34 kg of silver ornaments, Rs 50,000 in cash, a motorcycle and a mobile phone.According to police records, Anchoo and Rajaram have 10 and eight criminal cases, respectively, registered against them in Prayagraj, Pratapgarh and Kaushambi districts. Investigators said the accused allegedly sold looted gold and silver ornaments in Kunda and shared the proceeds among themselves.
