Pune:Two personnel attached to an outpost of the Rajgad police station were suspended by the Pune Rural police on Tuesday after they were booked by the Narhe police for an alleged attempt to rob Rs1 crore.“We have suspended two personnel posted at the Rajgad police station outpost after the Narhe police booked them in a robbery case. We are also conducting a departmental inquiry against them,” said superintendent of police (Pune Rural) Sandeep Singh Gill.“We initiated an inquiry as soon as we learnt of the cash transaction at the outpost. We decided to suspend them once the Narhe police established their role in the robbery and booked them as suspects,” he said.The Narhe police said both the suspended constables are currently on the run, and efforts are on to trace them.Earlier, police arrested four individuals in connection with the case: Vikram Vilas Chakankar (44), Amey Arvind Karle (46), Ganesh Ramesh Kadam (33), and reporter Ashish Tiwari (39). According to investigators, Tiwari allegedly siphoned off Rs20 lakh from the Rs1 crore kept at the police outpost on the Pune-Satara Highway while the cash was being handled by the two suspended personnel. The robbery attempt was reportedly foiled when a senior police officer arrived at the outpost unexpectedly, causing the suspects to panic.The case was registered following a complaint by a stationery businessman from Talegaon Dabhade. He alleged that the accused, posing as police personnel, intercepted him near Navale Bridge and attempted to rob him of Rs1 crore before forcibly taking him to the outpost and seizing the cash.
