Kolkata: Two patients who were being treated at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital “went missing” from their beds on Friday. The hospital administration later said both patients had “left” before completing the formal discharge process. The patients are 23-year-old Dipanwita Roy of Chitpore and 51-year-old Bimal Ghosh of Baranagar.Police said Roy was admitted to the Trauma Care Unit on the fourth floor. Hospital authorities found her missing on Friday night and informed her family, as well as Tala and Chitpore police stations. Her family later filed a missing person complaint.In another incident on the same day, Ghosh went missing from the medicine ward on the sixth floor. He had fever and heart-related problems. He was first admitted to Baranagar State General Hospital on Thursday and was later referred to RG Kar Hospital. Ghosh’s family came to the hospital around 11 am on Friday to visit him and found his bed empty. They said they received different answers from hospital staff when they asked about him.According to the family, a nurse told them Ghosh had been taken to the laboratory for tests, while a ward boy said he had gone to the washroom. A patient in the next bed said he had last seen Ghosh around 8 am. After looking for him throughout the day, hospital authorities told the family that Ghosh could not be found. A missing complaint was then filed, and Tala police started a probe.A hospital official said that both patients had been scheduled for discharge on Friday. As per hospital practice, patients who are to be discharged later in the day are usually asked to eat lunch before leaving. Officials believe the duo left the hospital on their own.Hospital superintendent Saptarshi Chattopadhyay said, “I have asked for a detailed report on the matter.” CCTV footage is being checked to trace the two patients.
