Hyderabad: Two persons died and eight others sustained injuries when a pickup van jumped the median following a tyre burst and rammed into two cars coming from the opposite direction on NH-65 in Nalgonda district on Sunday morning.The deceased were identified as Kasireddy Devender Reddy (55) and his relative D Saritha (60), both from Akkenapally village in Narketpally mandal of Nalgonda district. According to Chityala SI M Ravi Kumar, the accident occurred when six persons from Akkenapally village were travelling in a Swift sedan to Hyderabad.When the car reached Gundrampalli village in Chityal mandal, a pickup van travelling from Hyderabad towards Vijayawada went out of control after a tyre burst. “The pickup van crossed the median and rammed into the sedan coming from the opposite direction. The pickup van driver and all six occupants of the sedan sustained injuries. Another car also came in contact with the two vehicles and overturned on the highway. Three persons in the SUV were injured, while the driver escaped unhurt,” Chityala SI said.The occupants of the sedan remained trapped inside the vehicle for some time before passersby rescued them and shifted them to a nearby hospital in an ambulance. “While undergoing treatment, two occupants of the sedan succumbed to their injuries. All the other injured are out of danger,” the SI said.Narketpally CI S Suresh said the police were yet to receive a complaint from the victims and that a case would be registered against the pickup van driver. The accident disrupted traffic on the Vijayawada to Hyderabad highway for about two hours near Chityala until police cleared the mangled vehicles.
