Interviews for the new positions have been completed, and preference was given to candidates from Vidarbha, sources added. The move is expected to strengthen local employment opportunities in the technology sector and enhance utilisation of existing infrastructure within the SEZ.Essent initiated the process of acquiring an additional 8,000sqft space. Its proposal is currently under consideration, and formalities are likely to be completed soon. Once approved, the company is expected to scale up its operations and workforce from Mihan.Mihan’s IT-SEZ houses major companies such as Infosys, TCS, HCL and Tech Mahindra, which together employ a significant number of professionals. Apart from these large players, mid-sized and smaller firms, including Hexaware, GlobalLogic and Infocepts, are also operational in SEZ.Mihan is divided into SEZ and non-SEZ areas, and plots in the non-SEZ segment are now almost exhausted. While the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) is attempting to attract aviation-sector companies to invest in the SEZ, industry representatives said plot prices in SEZ are not affordable for many medium and small-scale entrepreneurs. As no plots are currently available in non-SEZ and as a result, several MSMEs keen to set up units in Mihan are unable to secure space. Industrial associations therefore demanded that around 40% of the SEZ area be converted into non-SEZ to accommodate such units.
