Times News NetworkKanpur: A clash broke out between two groups over fishing rights in the Ganga Barrage area under Kohna police station limits, leaving two cousins seriously injured. The accused allegedly fired shots and brandished swords to assert dominance in the area, though official confirmation regarding the firing is yet to be received. Police arrested five accused in the matter.The incident took place at Gate No. 10 of the Barrage, where Shubham alias Maka, a fishing mafia member and resident of Machhwa Nagar in Purana Kanpur, stated that he had gone there on Monday morning with his cousin Abhishek to fish. During this time, a group of people from Rampur village arrived at the spot. They allegedly objected to the fishing, began abusing the duo, and started claiming exclusive rights over fishing in the area.The accused allegedly threatened to kill them if they returned to fish there again. When the duo protested, the accused attacked them with rods, sticks and sharp-edged weapons. Shubham and Abhishek were seriously injured in the attack. According to eyewitnesses, some of the accused were brandishing swords and weapons during the dispute in an attempt to intimidate and spread terror.Hearing the commotion and sounds of the assault, nearby villagers rushed to the spot. Finding themselves surrounded, the accused fired shots in the air and fled the scene. The incident triggered panic in the area. The police, upon receiving information, rushed to the spot and sent the injured for treatment to a hospital. A video of the incident went viral on social media.
