Nagpur: Hit-and-run accidents claimed the lives of two — a 19-year-old BTech student and a 30-year-old cloth seller from Madhya Pradesh — within a few hours in different parts of the city on Tuesday.The first accident happened around 6pm on the Godhani-Zenda Chowk Road in Mankapur. Muskan Khiyaldasani, a resident of Jaripatka and a second-year BTech student at Jhulelal Institute of Technology, was riding pillion on an electric scooter driven by her friend Rajlakshmi Lokhande.They were heading towards Zingabai Takli when a truck hit them. Muskan fell towards the right side of the scooter and came under the rear tyres of the truck, suffering fatal injuries, cops said. Rajlakshmi fell on the left side and sustained minor injuries.The truck driver fled from the spot after the accident. With the help of information provided by locals, Mankapur police traced the vehicle and detained the driver, identified as Damodar Sahare (61), a resident of Nari in the Kapil Nagar area. Police have taken him into custody.Hours later, a second fatal hit-and-run was reported on the Kamptee-Koradi Ring Road, within the limits of Kapil Nagar police station.Shyamlal Wanjari (30) was riding a bike when a heavy vehicle allegedly rammed into him from behind and sped away. He died at the spot. Police identified him with the help of an Aadhaar card found in his wallet. Kapil Nagar police are checking CCTV footage along the ring road and looking for witnesses to identify the fleeing vehicle.
