Ghaziabad: Two persons were arrested following a gunfight on Tuesday. The accused had fired at Akash Bihari, a suspect in the murder of a journalist in 2020 who was out on bail, two days prior.Bihari’s father Ashok alleged that around 8.30pm on Sunday, four people – Aman Kumar alias Javva, Sumit Dujana, Arun and Shiva Vaid – approached Bihari in front of an electronics shop in Mata Colony. The group allegedly got into an altercation with Bihari, later pulling out country-made pistols and firing at him.Bihari sustained a bullet injury and was rushed to a hospital, where his condition remains critical, Ashok said. He also alleged the involvement of Ajay alias Bhuri, Praveen Gehlot and Mohit Baisla in the conspiracy, adding that the gang had made several attempts to kill his son.Police said Bihari is one of the suspects who allegedly murdered a local journalist during an incident in Mata Colony on July 20, 2020. He was released on bail a year ago after spending five years in jail, they added.An FIR was registered on Monday under BNS sections 109(1) (attempt to murder) and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) at Vijay Nagar police station.According to DCP Ziauddin Ahmad, around 11.30pm on Monday, they received a tip on the whereabouts of the accused. A team conducted checks near CHSP School, where the accused were spotted on a motorcycle.When signalled to stop, they attempted to flee, opening fire at the officers in the process. During retaliatory firing, Kumar sustained a bullet wound and was later brought to a hospital for treatment. The two accused have been taken into police custody.A motorcycle, two country-made pistols, one live cartridge and an empty cartridge case were seized from their possession.“We are also checking the involvement of the other accused and they are absconding right now. But Arun and Kumar were the ones who had fired at the victim,” he said.
