Prayagraj: Two people went missing in the Ganga at Kureshwar Ghat in Nawabganj area on Maha Navami on Monday. The incident occurred when several members of a family had entered the river for a holy dip and were caught in the strong current.According to police, a youth from Ghatampur, Ram Yadav, was swept into deeper water while bathing in the river. His brother Raj Yadav jumped into the river to save him. Seeing her husband and brother-in-law struggling in the water, Raj’s wife Anita Yadav also jumped into the river. Suresh Kesarwani, who was present nearby, too jumped in to help.Ram and Raj Yadav somehow managed to reach the shore safely, but Raj’s wife Anita and Suresh Kesarwani, son of the late Makhanlal Kesarwani of Jagdishpur Chandhan, were swept away and remain untraced.On being informed, police, jal police and NDRF teams reached the spot after receiving information and launched a search operation with the help of divers. Despite several hours of searching, the two missing persons could not be located.Family members of the missing persons gathered at the spot as police and rescue teams continued efforts to trace them.
