Salem: Two workers died of electrocution while carrying out side-bore drilling work inside an 80-foot-deep well near Thalaivasal in Salem district in the early hours of Friday. Police said they were electrocuted following a short circuit in a motor inside the well.The deceased have been identified as Narayanan, 50, of Kallakurichi, and Somu, 35, from Chhattisgarh.The incident took place at a farm well owned by Ravikumar, 53, of Chitheri village near Thalaivasal. As there was not enough water in the well, he had decided to install a side bore. A borewell vehicle operated by Pavithiran, 29, from Kallakurichi district was deployed and work began on Thursday night.“Around 2am on Friday, the duo was working inside the well when they came in contact with the motor, and died on the spot,” said a police officer.On being alerted, Thalaivasal police retrieved the bodies and sent them to Attur Government Hospital for postmortem.
