Prayagraj: The rising and receding trend of twin rivers on Wednesday kept the district administration on their toes to access the ground situation. While Yamuna and Ganga at Naini and Chhatnag showed rising trend, Ganga river at Phaphamau was receding. However, district authorities claimed to have made all necessary arrangements in view of risk of flood in Sangam city after activating flood relief posts.The relase of dam water in twin rivers is giving sleepless night to officials of flood control division and residents alike. Residents living on banks of Ganga and low lying areas are perplexed after witnessing rising and receding trend. The release of floodwaters into the Yamuna river from neighbouring state Madhya Pradesh has resulted rise in the water level. Although the water levels of both the Ganga and Yamuna rivers in Prayagraj remain about two meters below the danger mark of 84.73 meters, the water level of Yamuna and Ganga increased at Naini and Chhatnag during afternoon hours on Wednesday. Water level of Yamuna at Naini receded 19 cm in past 24 hours and the water level of Ganga at Phaphamau and Chhatnag receded at 2 and 10 cm respectively. However, at 12 noon, the water level of Yamuna rose 14 cm and stood 82.34 m. Similarly, the water level of Ganga declined at Phaphamau by 4 cm but it increased 4 cm at Chhatnag. The water level of Ganga at Phaphamau and Chhatnag recorded 82.82 and 81.91 m respectively by 12 noon.With water indumated riverfronts in city and neighbourhoods such as Daraganj, Ganga Nagar, Om Nagar, Shanti Puram, and Uchwa Garhi, residents are maintaining a close watch.As many as 88 flood relief posts are active in Prayagraj district with teams of NDRF , PAC companies, and Jal police are camping in low lying areas and ghats.
