HYDERABAD: The high court has directed the Telangana State Information Commission (TSIC) to issue a fresh notice to RTI activist Vaddam Shyam in compliance with its earlier order and dispose of his 404 pending second appeals and complaints within three months.Justice Surepalli Nanda passed the order while disposing of a writ petition filed by Shyam, secretary of Jana Telangana Rights Society, who alleged that the commission had failed to implement the high court’s Sept 18, 2025, directions in a connected matter.Shyam submitted that he had filed several RTI applications in the public interest and that 404 second appeals and complaints remained pending before the commission after authorities either denied information, provided incomplete information or failed to respond. He contended that despite the high court’s earlier directions, the commission neither issued fresh notices nor listed the cases for hearing. He also pointed out that his representations and an RTI application seeking details of compliance had elicited no effective response. In the earlier case, the high court had set aside a TSIC notice proposing to take up all 404 matters on a single day without furnishing casewise details. The court directed the commission to issue a fresh notice containing the list of cases and conduct hearings in convenient batches. It had also directed the petitioner to cooperate for the expeditious disposal of the matters.Appearing for the commission, the assistant govt pleader submitted that the cases could not be taken up as the information commissioner had been on long leave for nearly six months and resumed office only on June 27. He assured the court that all pending matters would be heard within three months.
