Srinagar, Aug 11: National Conference chief spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq on Tuesday urged the Centre and the Jammu and Kashmir administration to place greater trust in local youth and end “unnecessary suspicion”, while dismissing speculation over any tariff hike as “rumours”.
Referring to the recent incident in Anantnag, the MLA from Zadibal said suspicion against youth must stop to reduce the trust deficit between Kashmir and the Centre.
“We need to trust our people a lot. If we want to close the distance between the heart and Delhi, and make it closer, then I think we have to trust our people,” Sadiq told reporters here.
Endorsing PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti’s remarks that certain elements exploit situations to cast suspicion on youth, MLA Sadiq said the National Conference would take up the matter with the central government.
“The way Mehbooba has spoken… we agree with her. Some elements take advantage of such incidents to put our youth under the scanner. This needs to stop,” he said.
Dismissing speculation over a tariff hike, MLA Sadiq clarified that no such order has been issued by the administration.
“There is no order, do not spread rumors, there is no such thing. Last time too, a rumor was spread… there is no increase in any tariff,” he said.
Sadiq also said the National Conference would raise both issues — the targeting of youth and the baseless tariff rumours — with the central government to ensure that “mischief-makers” do not succeed in their designs. (KNS)
